HCG Diet – Phase 3

For people who have survived the first 23 days of the HCG diet and having gone through both phase 1 and phase 2, they are now ready for phase 3. Phase 3 of the HCG diet is also known as the maintenance phase. This usually starts at the last day of the HCG diet. Aside from the intake of HCG injections or most likely, HCG drops, people would still need to maintain the 500 calorie diet for about 3 days after the last day of the diet. This is to help the body adjust before change is going to take place once again.

After 3 days, that is the time when the food intake can be increased once again. People are recommended to take not more than 1500 calories a day. This means that three meals can be taken already but the amount of calories that are available for each meal should still be given special attention.

Healthy fats that were not allowed to be eaten during the phase 2 of the diet can now be re-introduced to the body in the forms of olive oil and avocadoes. Dairy products should be reintroduced to the body too in the form of milk and cheese. The most important food product that should be taken in by people who are undergoing phase 3 is protein. People are recommended to take about 80 grams of protein per day. This is different from the intake of 80 grams of food. The 80 grams should only be composed of protein. There are times when people become too excited that they have passed phase 2 that they start eating all of the food products that they want in phase 3. It should be remembered that phase 3 still has some food restrictions like the ones that are mentioned above. It should also not be confused with phase 1 wherein all the fatty food products should be eaten.

During this phase of the diet, it is crucial that people should weigh themselves every morning. In order to be sure that they are successful in maintaining their weight, they should not gain two pounds from the day before. As long as people do not gain two pounds then they have nothing to worry about and they can continue on the natural course of the diet as planned but if people do gain two pounds even after emptying their bladder and getting rid of other bodily substances, people would have to go through a protein day.

For those who still do not understand what a protein day is, this is basically a day wherein all you can consume is protein. You would need to stock up on eggs, steaks and some dairy. Do remember that you are not allowed to eat anything else. What your body will do is it will digest protein together with fat so that you can lose the fat that your body has stored.
